The recently published Chinese IP Index 2016 clearly shows that the protection of intellectual property in China is developing very differently from region to region. While Beijing, Jiangsu and Shanghai still occupy the top three places in terms of IP, Guangxi, Anhui and Shanxi are the fastest developing provinces. In Anhui, Sichuan and Guangxi, the protection of intellectual property develops even faster than the economy. In contrast, Liaoning, Jilin and Hebei have deteriorated in the last few years when it comes to intellectual property protection. The development of intellectual property protection in China can be compared to a wave that moves from the east to the middle and then further to the west.
