Special zone for IP protection

IP protection is becoming a regional competitive factor in China. The Chinese province of Hainan has now announced that it will establish a special zone for this purpose in Sanya Yazhou Bay. The aim is to establish and further explore a centralized management for IP rights. The first step of this development is the opening of the Hainan Center of China Copyright Protection.

The center is the first facility of its kind in China. It will provide comprehensive copyright services focusing on software, culture, literature and digital media. One goal is also to advance international cultural business using the resources of the copyright protection center.

The Hainan Center of China Copyright Protection provides a one-stop shop for government IP services, with a focus on administration and law enforcement. The new special zone is expected to help significantly reduce patent processing times – one example is the approval of an invention patent within 24 working days, a process that previously took up to 20 months.

To ensure that a filing is successful and save time in case processing, professional examinations are conducted in a preliminary examination process. The fast-track patent pre-examination process ensures that patent applications can be processed as quickly as possible, and the efficient linking of the process significantly reduces the time required for patent examination.
